The movie world has seen a variety of Police Officers grace the big screen, all with many shades and layers to them. In today’s world, the distinct line between the good cop and the bad cop has blurred, and the boundaries continuously intermingle. One such case belongs to Sergeant Gerry Boyle. Boyle is a small time Irish police officer with nothing, but disdain in his heart for everybody but himself. He won’t give a thought to what his colleagues have to say, whilst battling with the thought of his mother dying a slow death. He can drink alcohol like the world is ending without even the customary burp; he can out drink anyone and is proud of his capability. An officer like him wouldn’t give two hoots about the arrival of FBI Agent Wendell Everett, looking for clues about an alleged international cocaine smuggling ring. The introductory scene between the two is profanely hilarious; shocking and amusing the viewers at the same time. Sergeant Boyle hurls the choicest racist abuses at Everett, claiming that racism is a part of his Irish culture! Despite all that and Boyle’s weakness for prostitutes and the frequent alcohol fuelled rants, the two are able to work together and chase the smugglers. It’s a fast paced thriller, which gives the viewers absolutely no clue as to what the incorrigible Sergeant will do next. Adding the elements of laughter and caustic candor to the crime-thriller makes this movie a must watch, so don’t wait and move ahead to watch The Guard online.
